Hello Emerson Family!! Life has been very busy. And the leaves are turning. It was great to see you Jordan, when we were making bead jewelry. We'll have to get together again sometime and finish those bracelets. Before you know it, it will be Christmas!! Have you ever ridden in the snow Jordan? I'm sure your horse will be very good for you. They just a little bigger step.

*** 1 YEAR ***

Hello All.
The one year anniversary has passed on 8/8/08. It was a good day and a hard day to get through. I have to keep reminding myself where Jordan has come from. We are so blessed, thankful and lucky to have her. I kiss her everyday and tell her how much I love her (like a thousand times). She thinks I'm weird because sometimes I will smell her, touch her skin, listen to her breathe and stare at her.....just because I love her so much and never want to loose her. She is still doing really good and is walking each day better and better with her braces on and her walker.
She is excited and extremely nervous for school. It was decided at our last meeting that it was a good idea for Jordan to stay with her peers so she will
start as a "Freshman" at WHS on the 26th!!! ahhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhhh!
I am having aniexty bad..... I told her this is going to be harder on me than her. I don't want to let her go. She has been having lots of therapy this summer. Although she is still having trouble with her left arm we are still trying to get her to move it as much as possible. She will only start with 2 classes and all three of her therapies at school. I'm sure it is going to be difficult the first couple of months until we get a routine going.
She just had her make-a-wish this past weekend. It was to go shopping at the Maine Mall. We went on Friday & Saturday. It is nice because she got her school shopping done. It has been a very busy summer and she has had a few sleepova's (as she calls it). Some planned and some not...... Let me explain.....Jordan often invites her friends over and does not ask or tell her parents......so sometimes it is a surprise. We are trying to get a handle on this. She also text messages people in the middle of the night or early a.m. .....so we will be taking her computer and phone away at night so this will not happen either. She figures if she is up that everyone else should be too. We have been going to Beechridge almost every weekend. Jordan is like a little celebrity there. She has many friends that still race and she enjoys watching and cheering them on. Plus there are a lot of "cute boys" there.....(as she puts it). I told her she is not making my hair gray / she is turning it white! Sometimes looking back it seems like the year went really fast and other times it seems like forever.
We still want to thank everyone for their continued support for Jordan.
She is one tough cookie and we are very proud of the accomplishments she has made. We hope she will continue to gain strength and will again walk without assistance and learn to be more independent. Right now I still do everything for her and she will have a 1:1 aid at school helping her. I hope by the end of the year she will need them less & less and get back to her independence.

I can't wait to see you again, since I missed the last visit....Kachina is doing really well, tomorrow, my mom and I are going to work with her a bit in the morning before it gets to hot. This weekend up at Ellis where I'm going to show this summer the club is have demo day, and a gaming show, it's gonna be tons of fun. i miss you

jordan, oh my...i havnt heard anything on your progress in so long. im so proud of you...and congrats on the new puppy...and i love his name...lol...i think you know this but we had to get rid of my moms dog colby cuz joe wasnt to fond of the way he turned out...he was a mommys boy...but he has a good home...and the new dog smokey...if you havent met him yet...hes wild!!!

JORDAN IS 14!

Hi All.
Jordan is progressing so well. We are all so proud of her. She continues therapies; Occupational therapy, Speech therapy, physical therapy, theraputic riding, and theraputic swimming. She has appointments pretty much 5 days a week now & Saturday mornings. Her stamina is getting better as she can do more without getting so tired during the day. She has met her teacher for next year "Mrs. Doody" and has met some students that will be in the class with her. We have taken a couple of trips to school. Jordan loves going there! She misses the students and teachers a lot.
We went to the talent show and she is going on a class cruise this Friday that she is very excited about.
In the fall, Jordan will enter 8th grade at WMS. She will probably only go to a couple of classes per day and by the end of the year will hopefully be attending school all day.
She has started walking with a walker that she has decorated with help from me......we call it "Flower Power"! She walked into her Rehab. today and surprised everyone! It made me want to cry. I thought this day was still a long way off. Her short term memory seems to be getting better everyday. There are days when Jordan wants to give up but she does not want to spend the rest of her life in a wheelchair. She understands that she must work hard to get there. She has really worked very hard to get this far. She has lots of people telling her what she has to do and some days are better than others. She gets angry but not as often as she used to.
She turned 14 on May 25th. We had a family birthday party/cookout to celebrate at the camp on Little Sebago. She got a new puppy and named him Colby. He is a black lab like Dillon was only I think Colby is going to be much bigger. He is very cute and sweet but has puppy teeth and is a puppy to the fullest! I let Jimmy take care of him!! He likes to sleep with Jordan. Biscuit is extremely jealous and so far will not accept him as part of the family. I hope this will change. Colby is a good distraction for the three of us. It gives us something else to focus on. Jordan has been in the 4-wheeler a couple of times. We have gone to Aunties house, Brad & Katies and Eric's new house by trail. It is fun and exciting that we are all so close. We have been back to the Barbara Bush Wing many times for visits. It is so good to see all of the people and to know we are "just visiting" and can go home. We miss them all but are glad as to not have to stay there. We even try to visit in SCU-2 as well so that they can see the progress she is making. I don't think they mind and I want them to always be a part of Jordans life as they are the ones that saved it! We count our blessings every day and are so very greatful to everyone for their support!

We are looking forward to a good summer. Jordan will continue all of her therapies and tutoring for the summer. We hope to put up a round pen out back so that Kachina could come up to Maine and spend a weekend with Jordan! She would really enjoy that. She has been riding Tuffy @ It Takes Two Farm during her weekly lessons. She even trotted a little yesterday. It was fun to see. I hope that you will all come visit her. She gets on this blog now and reads them on her own. She also misses getting mail so feel free to write to her if you want to.

684th Post!!

Jordan - As you can probably tell my colors, fonts, and sizes are working again!! Yay!! lol! Fighting Giraffes!! That was hilarious!!! We were laughing so hard!! They were just swinging their heads attacking each other!! I was dying laughing! I forgot my picture from the Talent Show day at your house. I always forget stuff though, whats new! Colby is so cute!! And of course Biscuit and her little shirt were adorable! I'm still so jealous of your awesomtasticly green laptop. Long Time!!!

Hey Jordan! How are you? It's been so long since I've posted. Yikes!!! I hear you are doing really well, I'm do glad! Remember this time last year? We were in I.T. together! And Social Studies too, but in I.T. we actually got to talk! :-) Your farmhouse/barn/horse farm was so cool! Mr. Allen accidentally threw my house away though. :-( Oh well, yours was so much better than mine!
Aren't you so glad that the snow is finally gone?! As much as I do like snow, what we got was way too much! (Pete and Stewie are a little disappointed though. :-) They just got sent back to the Arctic a few weeks ago. They're doing well and miss you too!!!!) Today is such a nice spring day too, I'm so happy! You must be too because you'll be able to see Kachina more! I know Meghan wants to get Abigail together with her too. That'll be fun!

This is the 680th post!!!! Wow!!!!! How has Kachina been?! I can't wait to meet her -she sound like such a great horse! My computer won't let me post with colors!!!! I guess you will just have to read this plain old black and white note!!! I CANNOT wait any longer for this snow to melt, then we can finally get Abigail and Kachina together!! Our trailer has a huge pile of snow right in front of it - it is SO sad, LOL!!

Hi Jordan!!! It's Alyssa. This is one of those times where I have to to write a lot to make up for the times I haven't been able to log on! There is something wrong with my computer. Anyway, it is sssoo great to hear that you are alright and are trying to learn how to walk!! I heard Spring slept over a couple nights ago. She said that it was pretty cool. I think you've come so far and have proved many people wrong!!! Everybody is so PROUD of you!!!! School isn't that great, but I understand why you miss it. It's cool to see your friends once in a while and that will help you to recover. But right now there is nothing going on at school except for the fact that the third quarter is almost over and the fourth will be starting soon!!!! I really can't wait to see you again!!!! So many people MISS and I know they would LOVE to see you back at school soon!!!! I HOPE you make progress!!! There is probably no need to hope though because everybody knows that you will!!! Jordan!! Sounds like your are doing awesome!! Since you are seeing your progress day by day it may not seem like much. But for everyone else it is easier to see because we get updates every few days! And within just 1 week you are always making SO much progress! I can't even believe it sometimes, but then I remember that its Jordan we are hearing about, and I remember that you always make unbelieve progress!! Even if it is the little things ... over time you make them into big things! That is so amazing that you are seeing more and more people/doctors to help you(although it may not seem that amazing to you:)!) lol! Ida told me about the trip to see Kachina, and how you stopped at a huge horse store! I bet Kachina was happy to see you and meet Ida! It sounds like you are making SO much progress in very little amounts of time-you are doing incredible and I am so happy to have a friend as awesome as you!!!! SATURDAY ~ MARCH 8TH

Hi Everyone! I know I have taken much too long again to post. Jordan is doing better every day. The weeks are very busy for us with therapy 3 times a week and doctors appointments. Since we last posted we learned that Jordan had visual midline shift syndrome which means she believe her midline was off to the right instead of straight ahead like we all see it. To correct this she ordered special eye glasses made from prizims. We are not sure how long she will need to wear them. She is also seeing a Neurologist and is going to have some testing done to see wear the weakest areas of her brain are. She misses school and her friends and I still dont think she really understands why she cannot go back to school.
We just got back home today from visiting "KACHINA". It was a long ride down and Ida went with us. We took some back roads that were pretty bumpy and you know how easily Jordan gets car sick. She didn't actually get sick but she didn't feel good. It was cold and rainy so we didn't get to be in the barn for that long but it was still worth it to see how she interacts with the horses.
Jordan has a tutor from the high school now. Her name is Becky. She is wicked nice and Jordan loves her.
Jordan also got to go to a radio station...The Frank 107.5 fm and pre-tape a recording for the radio-a-thon that was held for the Barbara Bush unit that aired this week on Thurs., Friday and today.
Mrs. Clark has been to visit and had arranged for some teachers to come and visit with Jordan but it gets cancelled because of snow. We have rescheduled again for this week and hopefully we can make it.
Some friends have been over to visit. This is extremely important for Jordan.....so if you have not been over please come see her soon!
She is using a walker a little bit more and they are thinking of maybe doing some more botox in her left arm to see if they can straighten it out more.
I wish she could use her left arm more....I think it would help so she could do more things independently. She gets really frustrated and tires out so easily when she cannot do things. It wears out the both of us. I know we sometimes want to "give up" but we are both determined to get her to walk again. It just is hard because it is a very long road..... We have to take it day by day and not look ahead. TIME.... it is just going to take a lot of time to make it all happen.
I think we are all getting a little cabin feaver these days. It would be so nice to be able to take her outside and do things but this weather keeps us at home most of the time.
Jordan is have fun with AIM with her friends. She is doing well considering she can only type with one finger and how much her hand shakes. She seems to be keeping up with the typing. This has been her lifeline to keeping in touch with everyone.

How has March been for you so far? How has therapy been going? I can't wait until we get back together again! But even more I can't wait to hear how you are doing! It's Been Awhile!!!

Hey there Jordan Bea!!! It's Alyssa. Sorry I haven't been writing lately but my computers is whack and hasn't been letting me log on. I was bummed that you didn't come over to Sally's house!!! I couldn't wait to see you!!!! When I found out you weren't coming I was bumming. Anyway, thank you so much for the candy on Valentines Day!!!! It was pretty funny....Quinn was the only boy in the office when they were given out!!!! me and Spring were talking the other day about that time when we would build snowforts behind the mountain and she was sitting ontop of an unstable snow boulder and it broke off the mountain and took her with it!!!! And also the time where Ashleigh told Spring to stick her tongue to the pole and she did!!!! It' got stuck and she had to rip it off and it started bleeding really bad!!! That was hilariuos!!!! Anyway....I was just checking up on you to make sure you are doing alright. I HOPE to see you SOON!!!!!! LOTS AND LOTS OF LOVE!!!!

How are things going with your tutor and physical therapy? I know you are doing well! It must be exciting to realize how far you've come since August and how soon you'll be back to school and your old routine! (Although I'm sure you can manage without the school part! :-) Ha ha!) You're famous! lol! I saw you in the Lake Region newspaper( I think it was that newspaper ...maybe it was a different one-lol) Anyways.....It was for the Gray Snowmobilers Club! Another wonderful article on you! I loved the photo of you!


It is really unbelievable of all the things you've overcome in the past 6 months! I know that it is WAY much more than I could accomplish in a year - or even two years! You proved thousands of people how strong you are!

I still check your blog everyday, it's nice to see all of the good things your mom has to say about your progress! That's great that you will be swimming! Sounds like you keeping your parents very busy!! I heard you are going to be in the Windham Independent! I cannot wait to see it!! I bet you can't wait to go on the trip to the "Country". TUESDAY, February 5th

Hi Everyone. Boy am I getting bad at keeping up with the posting.....
Since we have home things have been busy trying to get into a routine. Jordan has therapy 3 times a week and now she has started with a tutor she just met today and hopefully we will get worked up to 3 times a week. They also want her to start theraputic swimming as well and her cousin Katie will be doing this with her. We have gone one time already!
Jordan and I have been sick again. Another infection this time it is intestional called C-Diff. NOT fun!! We have both been very tired. Jordan has lost almost 10 pounds which as you know is not good for her. She is looking very thin these days. We are trying hard to fatten her up!!
She loves using her laptop and AIM her friends every day. She is getting pretty good at typing one handed.
She had her hair & nails done and she loves them. Her nails are a glittery lime green (OF COURSE) and she had long layers cut and highlights in her hair. She has a wicked sense of humor these days. I love it......she makes me laugh every day! We did stop in at Barbara Bush and saw a lot of people. She still asks every day we have therapy to go to Barbara Bush afterwards. She has had a lot of appointments lately just trying to set everything set up. She is going to see an eye specialist next week.

We are leaving this Thursday for a trip up to the "County" to Uncle Andy's camp for some R & R. Well Jordan and I will be relaxing but the boys will be snowmobiling. I splurged and bought myself a pair of snow shoes......I love them. I went out the other day by myself. It was so beautiful.
I hope next year I can take Jordan with me!
Jim, Mom and I went to the benefit dance they had for Jordan. The turnout was amazing and they raised a lot of money for her. The band was great. A good time was had by all!!

Jordan schedule keeps us very busy. She is a very popular girl!!!!

How's HOME!!!!

Hey Jordan Bea!!! It's Alyssa. It feels like I haven't been on your blog in FOREVER!!!! I haven't been able to log onto it. Anyway, HOME must feel really good after all the trouble you've been through! And sometimes it feels good to just lay down and stretch!!! I do it before I go downstairs to eat breakfast....I'm not really a morning person. I'm sure you aren't either! I'm really glad that you guys are at HOME. It seems like such a long time ago since your accident and you've madea lot of progress!!! And since I haven't written in along time I'm going to refresh us with some memories.
#1) I remember when we all took swimming lessons at Mrs. DaBious's pool. And we would go there for field trips all the time. But usually we'd get split up because we'd have to take two trips to get everyone there.
#2) I remember when you went through this faze when you and Courtney were best friends. You guys made pillows for eachother and Sally, Ashleigh, Spring, Yesenia and I got really jealous!! But you snapped out of it.
#3) This one is my favorite...you've probably heard it a few times though. I remember when we were at Sally's house celebrating you birthday and we had tacos. You ate, maybe, one or two and then you just pulled the bowl of cheese in front of you and ate that. Then you said you went to the North Pole and that it was really cold!! And then we gave you cheese for your birthday. you're probably getting tired of that one. But that is one I will NEVER forget.
#4) Last one. I remember when we were "THE CHEETAH GIRLS," and we had a special handshake and we would get assigned certain colors to wear the next day. I remember that I was mad becuse my color was red and I didn't have anything red. Sierra and all of her friends were copycats and decided that they were going to be the Cheetah Girls too!! But then we convinced then to change their name to the Lepoard Girls. And we even made up their handshake.
I'll write back soon.( if I can log on again) I BELIEVE that your voice will come back soon!!! Have lots of fun at HOME!!!! Stay STRONG and HEALTHY!!!! I LOVE you and MISS you ssssooooo much!!!!!

I was sorry to hear that your vocal cords are still in "silent mode," but I am sure things will work themselves out! Just keep your hopes up and remember to BELIEVE!!! There is NO PLACE like home !

Hi all.
We are still trying to settle into our new home. I think it is much better for us but Jordan misses her old house. I hope we can take her there soon to meet the new owners. Jordan is having therapy at an outpatient facility 3 days a week and also does some therapy at home with mom (when she allows it!). She is going back to Boston on Friday to be re-checked by the surgeon who did surgery on her vocal cords....she is still whispering!?!? and it has been 2 weeks now. I am still in hopes that her voice will come back.
It would make things much easier if people could hear what she was saying. We have had a lot of visitors "THANK YOU" for that. We do appreciate the short visits as you see how tired Jordan gets very easily.
She wants the company but she doesn't realize how much strength and effort it takes her and she gets tired and wants to sleep after visits. She is starting to walk with assistance at therapy using her right hand on the parallel bars to support her. It makes me so happy to see her trying to walk. If only we could get the left arm to straighten out. She is moving her fingers on her left hand now opening and closing them up. We are all very excited. It is so nice to have my family practically next door. It only takes Cindy 3 minutes to get here and Kim about 5. They have helped me out a lot through all of this and they are on my doorstep when I need them. I havent ventured out much away from home except to take Jordan to her appointments. I did, however, go grocery shopping and to WalMart this week. It was a very strange feeling. I also am learning how to drive again!
(ask Cindy about our dump trip experience...lol). I think she was really scared I was driving!! Jimmy & I went out on snowmobiles for about 1 hour last night....we met up with my sister, nephew, brother and brother-in-law....it was fun and such a great feeling. What a beautiful night! I also got to go snowshoeing to break a trail with Kim....lots of fun that trip as well....lol....my boot got stuck in the water hole but I fell over. I layed in the snow laughing a long time....it felt so good. I find myself going out the back door a lot just to breathe in the air. It is soooooooooo nice to be home. Jordan and I remind each other of this every day. One of her favorite things to do is to stretch out on her bed. She said it just feels good to do it. (I know what she means)
Thank you again for all of the blog posts, phone calls, visits and letters we are receiving. This has been a great lifeline for us. Jordan is trying to AIM her friends now. She is doing pretty well considering she can only use one hand to type. She tries to get on every day (if we let her).

How's home life?! I hope you're enjoying being home again! I am still so happy for you! Is everything going well with the continuation of your recovery at home? I'm sure it is! After all, with you everything is great!! How does it feel to talk normally again? Was the surgery worth it?! We all knew you would get through it and you did! You are just amazing Jordan. I am so proud of you for all that you have accomplished over all these months, and it's all payed off, huh? You are finally home for good!
Did you enjoy the snow yesterday?! It was so pretty wasn't it? Snow always is though. We went snow-shoeing today in gym. It was kind of fun, kind of boring. It was nice to be outside, but stupid me, I wore jeans and they got soaked with the snow flying up on them from the shoes!! Oh well. I learned my lesson. Never wear jeans when snow-shoeing!!! ;-)

FRIDAY ~ January 4th

Not much time to write today!
Hi Everyone. Jordan made it through her surgery fine. She is doing very well in fact we are being discharged from the "intensive care unit" at MGH and will be admitted to the pediatric floor at Mass Eye & Ear Infirmary. We have decided to bring Jordan home and not go back to Spaulding. We should be home by SUNDAY!!!!!!!!!!!!

YEAH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

We will be taking the "Polar Express" home for Jordan's wishes.

Surgery!

Hi Jordan!

So, I can't tell you not to be scared - as anyone would be scared in your case. But I can tell you that I know everything is happening for the best - and even though right now it may seem not the best, in a few years or even a few months I know you will be happily saying that you were glad you did go through this surgery - I know you'll be A okay!!

I'm happy that my computer is letting me write in color today! The black and white was so boring I almost fell asleep ( well maybe not - but I could have)! So, I made up for my lack of colorness yesterday . . . .as you can probably see!!! But I mainly used green - cuz I know it's your faVoriTe!!!

1/3/08-Discharge from Spaulding/moving to Mass General Hospital

SURGERY TOMORROW. They have just confirmed that Jordan will have surgery on her vocal cords tomorrow. She is very scared as i am and we all would be if we had to go through all that she has. We will be discharged from Spaulding tomorrow and admitted to Mass General. She will be in intensive care unit for approx. 2 days and moved to another room for another day or two for monitoring.
We cannot be contacted on the phone numbers at Spaulding anymore and/or receive mail. I'm sure they will forward to our home address if we have not received them by now.....THANKS for all of your cards. It sure picked us up reading them all!
I'm not sure where we will go from Mass General....hopefully home! We were set to come home the 11th anyway.
Please keep Jordan in your prayers tomorrow. She has yet another "bump in the road to endure".......

Hi Jordan - 9 days, almost 8 days! I bet you absoulutely cannot wait to get on that train and for the last time say good-bye for good! Pretty soon you'll be in YOUR room, sleeping on YOUR bed, and getting to know YOUR new house! Okay so I'll skip to your favorite part - getting to ride YOUR horse! It's been a pretty tough few months for you - but you've proved that you can do anything, and really this does prove you can do anything!!!

Well I would just write Stay Strong - but I think you've pretty much got that covered! So instead I'll write: I can't wait to see you back in Windham!!!!!!!!
